Piano Plate Cleaning/Polishing

I don't know.  I've never used ammonia in the piano, and don't know if there are parts that the gas from ammonia should stay away from.  Any one else know if ammonia gas can cause problems with other parts of the piano?

  Regarding polishing/cleaning the plate, the plate is in. Is it possible to 
  still use diluted ammonia of course being careful it doesn´t get into the
  pins or strings?
