Shop Myth Busters

aka - dirty little secrets - enjoy!

Myth: In a shop that produces quality products very strict procedures are always followed to the letter with no deviations.

Truth: You do what you need to do with the tools and jigs you have in any manner that produces a quality product.

Example: Gotta make a set of laminated ribs within a short period of time. Check inventory, find that I have proper sized ribs for four of the six desired radii. Make a slab of 12M ribs and put in vacuum bag for overnight cure (lower level in rear). Would really like to make up a slab of 4M radius ribs - hey, they're smallish, I'll just clamp them with five large C clamps to the 4M caul (lower level forward). I had a couple 10M ribs, but one was a half millimeter too short - so I glue a thin 2mm veneer of Sitka to the rib, put a 1x4 on top and clamp it to the caul with a bunch of smaller C clamps (on top of the vacuum bag).

Different clamping/assembly methods for each radii. All will turn out top quality. Hey, sometimes ya just gotta git 'er dun.

Oh gosh, I hope I didn't let the cat out of the bag!
