Yes, it´s the Hydrocel system. Cheap, simple and works well. The tuning lasts longer and the pins get tighter. The customers fill it with water in winter (i.e. heating period) and ignore it in the summer. In summer it soaks humidity if the air is wet and gives it free when it´s getting dry. I think it´s a good alternative to Damp Chaser, but it might be too weak for very dry regions. Can´t say that because it´s not so extreme dry in my area. Anyway: it´s better than nothing. I just learned of that system via my runner map site, from a guy in the Netherlands. How synchronicity... They help very much in the dry heating period. But I am based in Europe and our climate here is comparatively constant. No heavy winter and no heatwaves in summer (anymore, thanks to climate change). That white tube attached to the side. ----- Original Message ----- From: Doodles To: Pianotech List Sent: Wednesday, September 03, 2008 3:18 PM Subject: Why After Two Years..... .... did this piano not need tuning (Okay, I only had to tweak 4 strings) when all other pianos at this time of year are howling from the extreme humidity conditions? There is no climate control involved. Is it anything to do with it being Ron Overs' favourite Steinway, or Ric B's theory of cracked soundboard not responding to weather syndrome? Miss Terious.
