grand hinge to rim screws stripped

Jessica,
If the piano is only moved several times a year, why are the hinges blown out? Perhaps the movers should take the lid off prior to moving it? 
It sounds as if they're either not using a grand board properly or perhaps not at all and that the edge of the top is taking all of the stresses of the weight of the piano during the move. If there are significant moves involved then the answer may be to have grand rails attached to the piano are in order. Typically found on D's and similar large instruments.  
If you need absolute strength you might consider an experiment with fitting a piece of metal to the rim and machine screws for the hinges. Perhaps not the prettiest look but easily the strongest. Definitely NOT my preferred way of resolving this issue though I'm sure it will get a pretty interesting reaction from the readers on the list.
