Jack, Are you doing a complete restringing? Or just a few notes? Either way my advice would be the same take everything off and proceed with the restringing. When you replace bass strings do the same thing. Take everything off, this will give you a chance to clean some hard to reach areas and then put on your new strings. I have never seen a harp break because of tension being released... now dropping a harp.. You will find this to be a more efficient method than removing stings one at a time.
