It just might be that the screw at the back of the check block
secure it in place. More than likely, there is a pin registering
the front of the block which is exceedingly tight.

Remove the rear screw, remove the key slip, get a blade
under the front and try the ease the block upwards. Did
I mention that the pin grip might be tight?

There probably is not a screw going up into the front hidden
by the leg mount but don't discount that. To quote a jazz
legend... One never knows, do one.
