   I have numerous Steinway pianos in my clientele that I have restrung on 
the original blocks.   (I have also replaced many blocks, where needed).   I 
have no qualms about using the originals if there is no evidence of separation, 
cracks, or oversize pins. Many of these pianos have been restrung 20-30 years 
ago and I haven't seen any unacceptable loss of torque in that time. 
   I have reamed a few to accept two oversizes, but usually, the torque from 
going in with a 3/0 pin is exactly what I am looking fo and   I always use 2 
1/2" pins in Steinways.
