Alan,

Would you happen to be able to get a copy say as a .wav file? It might make a great ringtone or startup sound on the computer.

Kindest Regards,

Garret

Here at the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts, we had a student compose a piece a few years ago that involved breaking a string by tuning it it ever sharper until... recording the sound, which was then processed as part of a live laptop improvisation. The piano I designated for this was an old Baldwin F. If memory serves, we chose a note somewhere in the vicinity of C5 (though I don't recall exactly why). In the "rehearsal", we got it to go about a fourth sharp before the over-stressed wire gave up the ghost. How far sharp you can go depends on the percentage of the breaking point the wire is at "normal" pitch.

YMMV.
