Back in October I posed a question about a Winter spinet in which the bass hammers blocked, the bass dampers would not lift away from the strings and the whole action seemed closer to the strings at the bass end.
Today I finally went back to the piano (the owner had health issues and could not do it any sooner) and found the problem. Thanks to your good suggestions, I found the side of the cabinet on the bass end had come loose from the back. As a result the keybed shifted from its proper position moving the action closer to the strings. Lots of glue, clamps and screws will fix it.
Thanks folks for your input, it steered me in the right direction. Three cheers for this list !
