I heard Pletnev play Tchaikowsky's 1st Piano Concerto in London's Barbican Hall a few years ago. I wouldn't have thought he was interested in lightening the touch of the piano. He seemed to have plenty of strength and power at his command. Maybe it's an "urban legend"! David.
