Hi Carman,
Sounds like he wants more projection from the instrument.
I finally convinced out music director to use our band/choir shells (three of them)
to project the sound of our little B.
Boy what a wonderful difference. Our hall seats over 2000

Subject: Front lid extended during performance

  My Colleagues,

I recently tuned a concert grand for a visiting well-known pianist. He insisted that when the grand lid is opened and resting on the long stick, that the -front- lid be closed. That is, the front lid was extended toward the player with its bass edge resting on the bass end of the piano case. The rest of the front lid was supported only by its hinges.

Have any of you seen a grand lid -intentionally- left open in this configuration? Does that stress the hinge which connects the front lid with the main lid?

  Your comments please.
