Speaking of odd pianos.. was odd baldwin piano

Hi

Just ran into one I haven't seen before.  Normally the soundboard grain 
runs in one direction yes ??  Just ran into an upright where the top 6 
or so inches runs perpendicular to the rest of the panel.   I'll take 
some pics next week. 

Anyone have any idea why they would do this ? The rest of the panel runs 
roughly parallel to the long bridge.
