Grand's action bracket runs UNDER the key sticks - impossible?

This is a good idea but I would drill an index hole in the struts first.

Remove the hammer rail with shanks attached.
Remove the let off rail.
Remove the wippen rail with wippen attached.

Now you have an open field.  Drill your pilot holes in the brackets, 
into the key frame.
Now you can remove the bracket structure and cut the metal.  The key 
frame is probably flexible, which was the purpose of the support of 
the metal; so consider reinforcement.

It's still landfill though.
