Yes, many of the other black key mortises are marginal, barely workable.  

What information is coming in the November issue concerning front mortise repair?

  The November issue of the Piano Technicians Journal will have an article featuring a way to repair this, but I'll bet you don't want to wait a couple weeks for it to be delivered.  Are the rest of the mortises fairly shabby, too?

    List,

    I brought a set of keys from a 1930 Knabe grand back to my shop for key rebushing.  Six of the black keys are missing the wood from one side of the front key mortise.  

    What is the best way to repair this?
