Ahhh, marketing

I wonder if in the US you have the type of 'Marketers' we have here in Oz.
There are some in the piano world here who do their marketing just a little
differently than the honest ones like we all.
These blokes are classics. They sell an old banger to unsuspecting families,
for a cheap price. This is after they have sprayed the wrest pins, strings,
hammers and everything else with gold paint. Then to rub salt into the
wound, they screw long wood screws through the ribs into the soundboard, to
'nail them down', then polish the case and away they go. The marketing part
of all this is, that they offer to trade the piano back on a new one, at the
original price paid, if they are not happy with it. Knowing the customer
will find out about the shocking condition of the piano, they are assured of
a new piano sale, because no other dealer can touch the rubbish sold in the
first place. The faulty piano is then sold on to some other poor sucker.
This has been going on for thirty years, and still is today, and there is
nothing any authority can do about it.
I have to say to David Anderson, the public are ignorant about pianos and
will believe most anything the good con man will tell them They are, in most
cases, purchasing a very important asset for their family, and want to
believe that they have spent their money on an item that will give years of
pleasure and have a lasting value for them and their children.
I get p......off with those who take people down, and indeed, give the piano
world a bad name.
I will get down off my box now,
Cheers, David Lawson Wangaratta Australia.
