Recycling/re-using bass string copper?

I've played around with it, forming a jig to help spin the copper off. If
you have a young son it is worthwhile, as the clean copper is fetching
around $2/lb. It'll give him some pocket money.

The larger ones are obviously more profitable. The fine wrapping on the
smaller ones gets pretty difficult to remove and you don't get much copper
for your efforts.

Oh, the jig was just a loop maker stuck in a vise to hold the loop end of
the wire. I then chuck the other end up in the cordless drill, pull the core
wire tight and spin it while peeling off the wrapping. Kind of a reverse of
the mfg process.

Subject: Recycling/re-using bass string copper?

Hello list,

Does anyone know of someone who recycles the metal from dead piano strings?
I have a couple of sets of bass strings that I've been trying to figure out
what to do with. I hate to see them go in the trash.

Thanks in advance,
