Yes Joel,That was Wurlitzer's preferred method for correcting tight centers. I think the formula was 8 parts naphtha to 1 part silicone. I doubt that overuse of silicone is the cause of the problem; presumably it was the bushing that is the problem. I forget the exact diagnosis -- something like a comparatively soft bushing cloth (more felt-like than cloth), whose fibers tended to cling to the center pin --> tight centers.
