I purchased some Ultrasuede (Ecsaine) from Denver Fabrics,
www.denverfabrics.com <http://www.denverfabrics.com/> and I posted that
back in February. Curious it didn't come up in an archive search.

27840h Ultrasuede - 11.0 oz 1/2 yard $19.98 about .044" gray in
color

13042 Ultrasuede - 7.4 oz 1 yd $31.98 about .034" tan in color

Go to the website and search on the catalog numbers to see what it looks
like

I measured the thickness with digital calipers trying to get just a little
drag pulling the strips through. I found the 11 oz to be perfect for
knuckles and the 7.4 oz works great for catchers. I've so far only used it
on vertical actions and have been very pleased with the very smooth feel it
gives while playing. They have been the most successful knuckle recovering
jobs I have done in my 25 years of piano work.

I just cut my big piece into strips using a straight edge and a rotary
cutter- available in any fabric center. It was easier than I thought
possible. I have enough to do a zillion pianos. If you want a sample, email
me your mailing address privately- deanmay at pianorebuilders.com. Or you can
order free swatches from Denver Fabric-
http://www.denverfabrics.com/pages/static/swatch-program.htm

I corresponded with Denver Fabrics and the 11 oz is as heavy as they carry,
and it only comes in gray, or at least that was the case last February. But
it seemed to do the trick for me. I am very happy with it. If you want
thicker I think Ron N. posted about gluing 2 pieces of the thinner stock
together (using PVCE I think) to make a thicker piece and he had very good
results doing that.

Subject: Rebuilding Grand Backchecks

I will be rebuilding a set of grand backchecks. I seem to remember a recent
discussion on escane (sp?) instead of leather - is this good - is this
available - where? Or, if not, who recommends leather from where? Also, I
don't see grand backcheck felt in the Pianotek catalog - what kind of felt
is used under the leather?

I searched the archives, but came up empty.
