Yes, Stan, that is my understanding too.

There was a confusion about what factor was invariant, and what was changing, but Frank made it clear.  Sorry for the mixing up.

  I'm really only jumping in here to ask a question which may be appropriate at this point.  Is it not true that the increase in thickness/mass needed to raise the tension of a string at a given length also makes the string less flexible?  And is this not a factor in the increased inharmonicity which seems to be a characteristic of high-tension scales?  That has been my understanding, but I'd be happy to be corrected if that is not the case.
