Ed: I've found their greatest utility to be in stitching from the side of the hammer at or just above the wood molding. A single needle all the way through at various positions in a straight line up from the tip of the molding can do wonders. But with care! A stitch at a time. I had no luck so I ordered some from Pianophile. Only after getting the needles I found out that they can destroy hammers. They tear the felt. Greetings, It depends on how you use them! If you begin needling with them as you would with a regular needle, yes, you will destroy the hammer. However, that is not the way. After you have a hammer softened in the shoulders, and want to loosen the deep core, a single stitch, from both sides, directly down into the core from the 11:00 and 2:00 positions, will often do wonders for the hammer's roundness of tone.
