It depends on how you use them! If you begin needling with them as you
would with a regular needle, yes, you will destroy the hammer. However, that
is not the way. After you have a hammer softened in the shoulders, and want
to loosen the deep core, a single stitch, from both sides, directly down into
the core from the 11:00 and 2:00 positions, will often do wonders for the
hammer's roundness of tone.
