Tiny pieces in butts

John - I don't think anyone has responded to your question.
The butt insert felts can vary a lot from piano to piano. You would
need to match up your materials to what you fin d in your particular
case. There is usually one piece of cloth and one piece of felt
involved. I carry action cloths and bushing cloths in a variety of
thicknesses, as well as felts in various thicknesses and densities.
Cutting the materials and getting the butts all uniform and consistent
can be a challenge, but it can be done. Perhaps gang-clamping five or
six butts and laying in strip instead of tiny pieces, and cutting apart
later would achieve good results? I have not done it this way, but I
would try it next time.

hope this helps
