I wouldn't advocate using pins more than 1/2 size over what was there originally. On an older piano like this, increasing more than .001" at once runs the risk of cracking the birdseye. If a larger jump than this is necessary may want to do some very careful wood reaming first, with a roughened undersize pin. - Mark Dierauf A440A at aol.com wrote: What's the best method for bushing all the centers quickly, and uniformly, please? Don Mannino has a great class on this subject. What I do is to determine the size of pin that will be slightly larger than any of the pins in the row of flanges, determine the proper straight sided reamer for that pin size, and then go through the row, reaming the bushings for the oversize pin. Don't spend time custom fitting various pin sizes to each bushing, ie, if you have 19, 191/2, 20 sized pins in your hammer flanges, find what reaming is needed to fit a size 21 1/2 pin in there and then do all of them to that size. Odds are that the action will never be pinned again, and if it does, there are still several sizes yet to go, if needed. this procedure is not only as consistant as can be hoped for, it is economically feasible.
