Before pumping in stiffening agents, check the hammer alignment to the string. Lift the hammer to the string and measure the angle. It should be 90 degrees or a little bit understriking (strike point is more towards the front shoulder) to accommodate for hammer wear. I have taken on a piano which formally was of the "S-Tech" hype and the hammers are severely understriking, more hardener only aggravated the situation. A good filing alleviated some of the problem but nothing short of hanging hammers of the proper length and inclination to the shanks will do. So check that aspect before plundering forwards. -- Regards, Jon Page
