The only S&S pianos w/20-note basses are/were A, B, C, and D, all larger than 6' S, M, O, and L all had 26 bass notes. By size, slightly under 6' makes it an O or an L, a little smaller yet and it's an M Just thinking out loud here and I'm sure none of this is new to you ... also, the mystery remains unsolved, sorry. Oh, well, let us know what you find. Alan Barnard Salem, Missouri ----- Original Message ----- From: Joseph Garrett To: pianotech Sent: 04/13/2006 10:23:52 PM Subject: 20 bass Steinway? I'm currently working on rebuilding the action of a S&S. I measured it and it was slightly under 6'. Since it didn't have a letter stamped on the "yoke", I assumed it was an "O", since it was made in 1911. Having looked over the Hammer Boring charts, it dawned on me that the only 20 bass note S&S pianos are either a "B", (which this ain't), or an A. It's too new to be an A-1, so what the heck is it?
