Marshall, The wire mute handle is probably too short. Use a piece of coat hanger wire, about 8" long to start. When it's done it should be just over 6". Make the handle loop like a "p," not like a lollipop, so that when the wire rests on the hammer rail. the loop is down below the hammer heads and out of the way.
