You know someone mentioned putting a notch in a mute for some reason or another...? Probably so it wouldn't jump out?

By golly, I believe I have come up with an ultimate treble mute, one that will get completely out of the way in the tightest spinet, and not pop loose. I've posted pictures to files at ptg.org. and impatiently await the moderator's assistance in showing them.

Meanwhile, the mute is made by hooking one rubber grommet from a spinet key fork onto a piece of coat hanger wire. The groove on the grommet easily snaps between two unisons at the V-bar. Then press the damper pedal and slide the grommet down below the damper tops. Flip the wire forward between the dampers and it rests on the hammer rest rail, completely out of the way of the hammers.

I carried this idea around in my head for several months, and finally got around to trying it this afternoon because of the discussion on this list.
