Grand Piano Lock Problem

Can someone tell me how to remove a grand
piano lock without damaging the wood and finish?
 I tuned a 1 year old Essex grand today and the
lock will not lock. I want to take out the lock to see
what is going on, but after taking the 2 screws out,
the lock will not come out risking damage to the
wood or finish.
