Go Bars...(Material)

Again, I think this is breaking strength rather than shear strength - but I'm not an engineer - any engineers out there to set us straight?

      I should thing Hickory would be the best choice for go bars, as it is the best wood for resistance to sheer. I used to own a pair of hickory skis and they we heavy but very flexible. It's THE material for making wooden threaded stock, for piano legs, etc.
