The plate has not been out. The recent work was mainly "Teflon eradication", in other words, replacing the action parts of the piano (which dates from '79). Since this required a new back action and dampers and the piano tuned poorly due to wildness, I went ahead and restrung, dressing the capo and adding CA around the bridge pins, so far working a big improvement. I have been meaning to ask here about the angle between the speaking length and backscale portions of the strings for some time. On this piano, the disparity is glaringly visible from the pianist's position and is, uh, bothersome. I think techs should recommend against pianos that exhibit this angle if they have the chance to do so. As I mentioned, this bridge exhibits cracking only in the mid-section where this angle disparity is present.
