Hi Phil, Here's a way to adjust vertical dampers fairly easily. First get them lifting evenly with the pedal. Wait. missed one... Now measure from the top edge of the hammer rail to the back of the damper head in a few sections. Select a thickness of felt or something to stick under the hammer rail at a bracket which holds the hammers at half-blow. Remove the action to a bench. Wedge a screw drive or similar object behind the damper lift rod to achieve the hammer rail to damper head spread. (The dampers a now set to the string plane). Place the wedge blocking the hammer rail to half-blow. You're set to adjust the spoons. Sighting down on the action, lift a wippen until the jack contacts the hammer butt. Adjust the spoon so that it contacts the damper lever when the jack contacts the hammer butt. The damper rod may have to be readjusted for each section. Regards, Jon Page --
