hide glue

How do you pre-apply the glue? I missed this step in Spurlock, maybe I
don't have the advanced certification required to know about the
"deluxe" method. ;-)
 
Seems to me that it would negate the benefit of using the mortise sizing
cauls.

Hot hide glue, I presume? I like it about the viscosity of olive oil.
Works for me. I also pre-apply a coat of glue to the wooden key mortise
(I follow the deluxe Spurlock method).

Just finished a set of key bushings using hide glue. I found varying
degrees of density upon use, and  would like to know if anyone could
best describe the consistency of glue for application. (for example:
Buttermilk, honey, molasses.)
