Hi Gordon: My recipe for painting sharps: 1. Steel wool the finish with 0000 to remove the grime and goo from the sharps, especially the sides. Wipe down with mineral spirits (paint thinner). 2. Spray with 3 coats satin black spray enamel, being careful to "fog" the paint on. Don't be in a hurry, and spray more from the sides than the top to avoid runs. 3. After a thorough drying, finish with two coats (again lightly) of satin polyurethane spray. This gives the key long wearing ability. If you like, you may finish with steel wool, but beware of some that have an oily film. Mike Kurta
