Resonance or Waves ?

In the never ending quest of understanding just how pianos make sound,
how the soundboard vibrations really function, how string vibration gets
the whole thing moving... the following may be of interest to some of
you. Hemholtz's Resonance Theory of sound is making a comeback and the
present fashion of explaining sound in terms of transverse waves in
solids causing longitudinal waves in the air that the ear drums
passively respond to (von Békésy) is under a new critical eye.

Now whats interesting is that if you accept Hemholtz's... the the whole
transverse wave action in soundboards bit kinda bites the dust... at
least to some degree. And if you dont accept Hemholtz, then you have
some phenomena to explain that cant be accounted for by von Békésy.

Anyways... for those who are interested in such...

There are other articles along these lines surfacing recently as well...
