Mark, David,

Thanks for the tips! This is the kind of proprietary info I need. I was=20
initially called in to fabricate a dowel, because the monkey lifting portio=
n of=20
dowel was not there.
=20
It was a crummy rebuild, and everything pedal and damper related was poorl=
y=20
regulated. It would have been a job that required far more time than I had=
=20
to offer at that point. It was one of those, "hey Dave, you got a few=20
minutes to look at this sostenuto pedal" deals in a dealer showroom that tu=
rns into=20
a piano tech's Pandora's Box.
=20
Great info, gentlemen.  Thanks!

Remove the shanks/hammers immediately adjacent to the breaks =E2=80=93 on a=

would mean  hammers 1, 20, 21, 51, 52, 68 and 69. This will allow you to see=

the sostenuto rail and tabs at the locations closest to the adjustment poin=

using a flashlight with the action back in place. =20
Before sliding the action back in, loosen the screws and bolts that hold th=

brackets just enough to allow the rail to slide in and out when tapped with=

a screwdriver blade. With the action in and cheekblocks in place you can us=
e=20
a thin long bladed screwdriver to reach down through the strings and tap th=
e=20
brackets to position the sostenuto rail correctly. =20
Of course the rest of the system needs to be in at least reasonably good=20
adjustment before you begin, IOW, good damper regulation, nice straight=20
sostenuto tabs and proper amount of throw on both sustain and sostenuto pe=
