Probably a rebound rail, like a hammer rail in a grand, to keep the =
dampers
from overtraveling and striking the hammers(?) or breaking/bending on a
hard, fast keystroke. My guess.

Subject: New Yamaha M500: "damper rest rail"?

Tuned a new Yamaha M500 studio yesterday. Right behind the damper heads
(between them and the hammers), there was a bronze-colored metal rail
extending all the way across, about 3/4" high, with green felt facing =
the
damper heads. The dampers never touched it.

What's it for?
