BTW, the short answer is "heat-activated hemming tape".  Five seconds of 
heat sets it.  The cloth can be peeled back and the glue re-heated to 
re-activate it.  This will be much better than firing an electric staple gun 
into the rim a few dozen times!  Great idea, Mark!
