They have MSDS (material safety data sheets) for all their products. Go =
to their home page and do a search on MSDS and you'll get the full list =
of PDFs.
In a nutshell, they say to not take a bath in it. If you have reasonable =
ventilation you shouldn't need a respirator. If you lack adequate =
ventilation, wear a good-fitting respirator with an organic filter =
cartridge. One should always test-fit their facemask and monitor for =
cartridge break-through.
I hear a number of folks saying they can't stand the fumes from epoxy. =
I'm sure some folks are more sensitive than others. I use West System =
exclusively (not because I am sure it is the best product, but I know it =
is a very good product and it has always met my needs) and have never =
had any problems with vapor sensitivity - I don't wear a respirator when =
working with it. In piano work, we are usually working with small =
quantities. Many, if not most, users of West System epoxies are building =
boat hulls and are coating 50,000 square feet of material at a time (or =
there abouts) - I figure if a respirator is optional is that situation, =
bonding up a little four-foot long bridge isn't going to kill me, IMHO.
(cough, cough, cough.....)
