Viennese steel flange, Heinzmann & Sohn advice sought....

Looked at a  very well preserved, nicely refinished
Viennese grand, Heinzmann (sp?), 7-1/2 foot, 
serial # 4317. 
    Another tech is possibly interested, but warned me
about "steel flanges" on these pianos. Without my
taking another trip to pull the action, can anyone
advise me about these, and this make of piano, in
general ?
