Hi David,

Even though it's not your fault (softened finish from over-oiling/waxing, as 
others have pointed out), if you feel compelled to do something to leave the 
bench looking nice, you might try polishing it out with automotive buffing 
compound (the finest grade -- not sure if I'm using the right term).  Just 
put a bit on a rag, rub briskly, and the boo-boo is gone.  It's cheap, easy, 
quick, and water-based.  :-)
