---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment =20 Hi David If I follow your train of thought ,as we discussed privately before,=20 there seems to be something missing from some of the complete redesigns you= 've=20 worked up. May I suggest a bit less radical approach if I can call it that. In the=20 several redsigns I"m involved with recently/currently I have used smaller c= ut=20 off bars than some I've seen & used no fish save the Mason AA. Still overal= l=20 an amazing huge improvement in all Catagories. No loss of power, better=20 sustain & tonal focus, clarity ,snarl at FFF & good balance. Perhaps you've= had a=20 bit more exposure to a different kind of animal but I"m listening to you=20 because of my respect for your sensitive ears. Perhaps there is a different= middle=20 ground.=20 My D for example which as you know I'm enthusiastic about does not have=20 cut-off bar, fanned rib, or fish but does have variable radius board & white= &=20 sitka ribs. A bit taller than original but not much. The sound is grand=20 because the whole structure is stiffer because of design & materials used. Dale Erwin I was thinking mostly about the balance between power, sustain and tonal=20 range. The trend seems to be moving in the direction of power, loudness,=20 attack, whatever you want to call it. For those who wish to move the balan= ce back=20 to one of more sustain with a natural dynamic range somewhat lower on the=20 scale, that trend=E2=80=94and what people have gotten used to=E2=80=94makes= it difficult to put=20 the piano back in pianoforte. Many instruments now are just fortes and if=20 they don=E2=80=99t produce that kind of sound, many people are disappointed= because=20 that=E2=80=99s what they=E2=80=99ve grown accustomed to hearing. =20 A broader tonal palette might, ironically, mean a reduction in loudness. =20= =20 =20 David Love davidlovepianos@comcast.net =20 ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
