Well, indeed, you must be careful for that.  But if you start with the =
three strings in a horizontal plane (or close enough so hammer mating =
seems correct), then, if you pull the strings in the same horizontal =
plane (or close enough), hammer mating should stay correct (foreseen of =
course that the hammer crown is in a horizontal straight line (or close =
enough)).  But indeed, you must be careful, as when the bending is done =
too far or in a bad direction, it is very difficult to come back to the =
previous situation.
Maybe it is a better idea to do the horizontal movement first.
