Trumann Piano Plant Lays Off Workers While Undergoing Restructuring

JANUARY 7, 2005 - Posted at 8:55 a.m. CST

TRUMANN, AR - The head of the Trumann Chamber of Commerce says Baldwin
Piano & Organ Company has laid off workers as it goes through a
restructuring.  Chamber of Commerce director Jackie Ross says the piano
company had some layoffs but Ross didn't know how many.

Baldwin has experienced financial problems before and filed court
papers to reorganize its debt in 2001.  Gibson Musical Instruments of
Nashville, Tennessee, bought the company later in the year from General
Electric Credit.

Attempts to reach Gibson by telephone were unsuccessful.

The 300,000-square foot Trumann plant opened in 1980.  The company has
another plant in Conway.
