Would "Made for use in locations with Western-style HVAC systems" make you 
feel any better? There's probably a better way to phrase that, but "made 
for this climate" is more poetic and understandable, if not absolutely 
accurate. The "climate" may be similar to Japan's, but the way we build, 
heat and cool our homes and buildings is not.
