McMaster/Carr
You want PTFE Medium shrink or High shrink tubing. Runs about $3 to $6 per 4-ft
length. Depending on diameter. That's enough for about 1-1/2 pianos.

Check the diameter of the springs and order the next larger size tubing. You
will probably want #7564K17 which has a 0.050" expanded diameter and a 0.027"
minimum shrunk diameter. But you best check your own springs to be sure.

Hi Del,

I've been wanting to try the shrink Teflon. Where do you get it?

Thanks and Happy New Year.

  Hey Guys & Dolls

I though before I went out & purchased a new heat gun I'd see if any one has a
good used one they like to part with. I use it primarily for heating shanks.

  Thanks

  Dale

Part with an Unger heat gun? You're kidding, right?

I demonstrated one of these -- a Princess model -- in the first class I ever did
at a PTG Convention (1972, Portland, Oregon). The class was on grand hammer
hanging and I was using it to demonstrate heating hammershanks. It was a
carry-over from my Air Force days where I had used it to shrink Teflon tubing
around soldered joints. As I recall no one in the class had ever seen one before
but by the next year it had shown up in the Schaff or APSCO catalog (I don't
remember which). Since then I've been through several but wouldn't dream of
parting with the one I have now.

Speaking of shrinkable Teflon tubing -- it's still the best fix I know of for
sticky old Steinway butterfly springs.
