Thanks for the details about brass rail conversions. The way I've done 
it in the past is to compare, side by side, the brass rail with one of 
the new wooden flanges to see what modifications I need to make. If I 
measure the difference in center pin position, vertically and 
horizontally, I can draw appropriate cut lines on the hammer rail (which 
would work for a rabbet plane or a table saw, choose your poison :^). 
Even after making the cuts, the brass plate mounting screw holes should 
still be visible and the old plates can be used for marking the flange 
screw holes (best as I can recollect - it's been a while). I figure if 
it played acceptably before, it should after. Maybe I was just lucky?
