And if overall tension averages 20 tons or 40,000 pounds, 1% of that equals about 400 pounds, i.e. each cent increase in pitch adds about 400 pounds of tension - ballpark thumbnail estimates, of course, but these mnemonics help me remember, and help us and our customers understand.
