No, this is how they were done at the factory at the time, and all 
rebuilders actually duplicate it when the time comes for restringing. One 
thing I should mention though, even though they have wound trichords, and 
plenty of them, they are the easiest to tune that I have come across; they 
match perfectly.

This method I have only seen on straight strung grands up to 1905.
