Leather Bushings

Hi Terry.

Make sure you select the appropriate thickness to begin with. Also,
leather is a bit more forgiving then felt when it comes to gluing. If
you use too much glue with felt then it soaks through making the bushing
too hard. Use the same calculation you use for felt bushings. Then if
you allow your cauls to sit over nite they should size up real nice to
begin with. I like to glue with mortices just a tad wet. They seem to
size themselves much like the alcohol/water trick for flange bushings.

Btw.... when fitting to the keyframe.... I always fit for 1-2 grams of
key friction now. You turned me onto that idea and its a great way to
help insure even touch. Looser then that and you risk them getting noisy.

Cheers
RicB

Any recommendations on how to "fit" the leather? Spurlock recommends that
when dry fitting a cloth bushing you should be able to pick the key up with
a key pin insterted into the dry-bushed mortise, but when you shake the pin,
the key will fall off. How should one fit the leather?
