The sentiment is probably shared by all CAUTs who labor under the 
apparently mistaken notion that well maintained pianos, rather than 
overcoming a piano's shortcomings, is the path to true enlightenment.

on the trail, but you have to have good technique BEFORE you can adapt to 
abherrations.

Technique learned on a bad piano is bad technique. Example: If you are 
learning a piece which calls for you to do a trill on two notes, one of 
which has has the hammer tail dragging on the backcheck ever so slightly, 
you will learn to favor one note. When you get to a well regulated piano, 
your trill will be VERY lopsided.
